Energy Efficiency

Our Commitment to Energy Conservation

As a leader in the electric power industry, Allegheny Energy is committed to helping customers make smart energy choices.

Allegheny Power, the electric delivery business of Allegheny Energy, recently launched its new “Watt Watchers” program to help customers learn more about saving energy and money. Watt Watchers includes a host of energy conservation programs and information that will help customers manage their electric bill and use energy more efficiently, including:

  • Making energy-saving compact fluorescent light bulbs available to customers through partnerships with retailers, distributors and as part of energy-efficiency kits
  • Helping customers conduct home energy audits
  • Conducting workshops for business customers to encourage participation in utility demand reduction programs
  • Launching an automated metering pilot program to help customers better understand and manage their energy usage
  • Educating students about energy conservation and how to reduce energy usage at home. Allegheny Power provided free educational materials for school students across its service territory in fall 2007.
  • Working with state regulatory commissions to offer voluntary wind energy programs that would give customers the opportunity to support the development of emission-free, renewable sources of electricity from wind farms located in Pennsylvania and other areas of the country.

We’re working hard to help consumers become more energy efficient. But energy conservation and efficiency programs are not enough to meet the challenges we face. We need new transmission lines such as TrAIL to ensure reliable power in the years to come.
